Creating a personal culture

“This is the way we do things around here” are powerful words. Even if it’s just within the story you tell yourself.

I have tried and the results have been mixed. The secret I believe is simplicity. Each failed attempt over complicated things, complexity gets difficult when you need to think quick. Simplicity is key.

The single most successful attempt I ever had at creating a personal culture used four carefully chosen words to represent what I wanted to be. I chose to be determinedly:

  • Reliable
  • Enthusiastic
  • Proactive
  • Organised

This small attempt immediately and completely changed how I was viewed by the world around me and how I approached my world. At the time I was none of this things consistently. Sometimes yes, always no. This was in 2008 and I still live my life by these words.

That is what I am, almost naturally. I wonder what next?
